Park Slope is one of Brooklyn’s most charming neighborhoods. Brownstones and tall verdant trees line the mostly peaceful side streets, while the main strip is bustling with activity. Park Slope is also known as one of the most family-friendly areas in NYC.
When tourists visit NYC they typically head straight for midtown in Manhattan, yet the city has so much more to offer. If you’re visiting NYC and want a more local, down-to-earth experience, make sure to ride the subway to the Atlantic Avenue-Barclays Station, and enjoy the day in Park Slope.
Here are some of our favorite things do in Park Slope
Stroll through Prospect Park
This beautiful 586 acre urban park is where you’ll find all the active Brooklynites. While Central Park may be NYC’s most famous oasis, Prospect Park offers many of the same features (trails through the woods, large ponds, fields for frisbee, bike paths, etc.)
Prospect Park is hugely popular for locals living in Park Slope, Windsor Terrace, Prospect Heights, and Flatbush, because it connects all four neighborhoods. Prospect Park is an excellent place to have a picnic, so pick up a pizza on the way.
Treat your Sweet Tooth
Park Slope has no shortage of sugar. Here are our top four recommendations for dessert in this quaint corner of Brooklyn:
- For ice cream, Ample Hills Creamery is an adorable kid-friendly parlour tucked away on Nevins Street.
- The Chocolate Room on 5th Ave has all of your Cocoa-related needs.
- Located in a hip, triangular building on Flatbush Ave, the Doughnut Plant will make your mouth water.
- And if you’re more inclined to tea and a slice of pie, we might recommend Four & Twenty Blackbirds on the outskirts of Gowanus.
Whether you choose a romantic, dine-in experience at the chocolate room, or you take the whole family out for ice cream on the Ample Hills’ rooftop, we’re sure you’ll enjoy any of these sweet treats in Park Slope.
Go Rock Climbing
When you think of New York City, images of rock climbers and bouldering walls probably don’t come to mind! However, Brooklyn Boulders is an indoor climbing facility that could be an adventurous addition to your trip to Park Slope.
With highly trained instructors, beginners classes, youth programs, and an overall fun atmosphere, the whole family would enjoy a trip to Brooklyn Boulders. We’d just recommend eating the pie and doughnuts afterwards…
